She's covered sports for some of the most prominent media around the globe. Her time working at The Washington Post was spent with multiple Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis along with basketball, football and other sports. Nichols, who earned two Emmy Awards during her nine-year period with ESPN and appeared on many of the network's most popular shows such as NFL Countdown or SportsCenter, moved to ESPN after 2004. Her Monday Night Football coverage as a team reporter was one of the areas she worked at the network. Next was CNN, and then Turner Sports. Unguarded: Rachel Nichols hosted her own show on CNN International. The show had more than a billion viewers worldwide. During this time Nichols covered TNT's NBA broadcasts which included playoffs, regular season, and the All-Star broadcast teams. She has also worked for TBS reporting as an anchor covering baseball and golf coverage. CBS broadcasted the Final Four. This is the first occasion in the award's 42 year tradition that a woman has been selected from the over 200 candidates.
